On May 11th, 2024, the final of this year's 68th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Malmö, Sweden. Under the eyes of the Swedish royal family, the Swiss act Nemo was able to claim victory for Switzerland with a highly professional and sensational performance of their song "The Code". The last time Switzerland succeeded in the contest has been decades ago. It was Céline Dion in 1988 with her song "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi", who was able to carry the trophy back to Switzerland. Nemo is a signing of the young Universal Music Germany label "Better Now Records" and Universal Music Switzerland.
Nemo has already been the bookmakers' and betting agencies' favourite prior to the contest, as well as the one of many ESC experts. Even the other participating artists were enthusiastic about the song and Nemo's extravagant and energetic performance. With their sensational outfit and impressive head voice, which surprisingly turns into a rousing rap flow, Nemo was frenetically celebrated by the audience from the very first second on.
With the winning track, the exceptional non-binary talent has written a fascinating and very personal musical work of art that combines rap, drum 'n' bass and opera. "The Code" is somewhat reminiscent of Queen's masterpiece "Bohemian Rapsody". The song is more than just music - it's a coming-of-age narrative that celebrates self-love and encourages people to embrace their own journey. Nemo also felt it was important to stand up for the entire LGBTQIA+ community with their performance as a genderqueer person.
Celebrity DJ Felix Jaehn also identifies as non-binary. Their similar paths have brought the two together musically. Felix Jaehn created a perfect dance remix of "The Code" for Nemo prior to the final. The rousing remix by Felix Jaehn will leave no dancefloor desires empty! Felix Jaehn is one of the most successful and multifaceted EDM and dance producers with more than 10 billion global streams and numerous awards.
Leonard Prasuhn (General Manager Better Now Records & Senior Director A&R Electrola) comments: "We are thrilled and can hardly believe our luck. Dear Nemo, with your unique musical vision and tireless commitment to diversity and tolerance, you have not only enriched Europe musically, but also set a strong example for acceptance and inclusion. Your success in Malmö is unique and proof that true art knows no borders. Congratulations on this unique performance. We are very proud of you and your ability to build bridges through music. Bravo, Nemo!"
