Following her recent single ‘Breaking The Circle’, Sophie Ellis-Bextor has shared a new track ‘Everything Is Sweet’, which is taken from her seventh studio album ‘HANA’ released on 2nd June via Cooking Vinyl.
A glorious alt-pop track, ‘Everything Is Sweet’ builds through euphoric synths and keys to an impassioned chorus backed by a sentiment of escapism and romance. A Visualiser can be watched here. Sophie says;
“Everything is Sweet is a song about a fantasy world. There’s someone you want to be with, they haven’t noticed you at all and your mind has concocted a dream world where you and that person are together in a utopia. Throughout the song, I’m trying to lure the one I want to enter into the dreamworld with me.”
Recent single ‘Breaking The Circle’ followed Sophie’s Radio 2 A-Listed single ‘Hypnotized’ with Wuh Oh last year (currently at 2M streams) and her most recent album ‘Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Kitchen Disco: Live from the London Palladium’, which was also her first live album. ‘Breaking The Circle’ has already been B-Listed at Radio 2 and she also recently shared a remix of the single by Sudlow, which can be listened to here.
Last month, Sophie performed ‘Breaking The Circle’ and her hit single ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ as well as a cover of Madonna’s ‘Open Your Heart’ alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra for an exclusive BBC Radio 2 Piano Session during Ken Bruce’s Radio 2 show and on BBC Sounds. The full set of performances can be watched here.
Sophie’s forthcoming album ‘HANA’ was made with long-time collaborator and friend Ed Harcourt. It is their third in a trilogy of records, with each stemming around the thematic frame of a location. The collaboration began in 2014 with the critically and commercially successful ‘Wanderlust’, which was inspired by Eastern Europe, and continued in 2016 with ‘Familia’, inspired by Latin America. New album ‘HANA’, which Harcourt describes as “kaleidoscopic joy”, is inspired by East Asia and began with the album track ‘Tokyo’ and Sophie’s first trip to Japan pre-pandemic in 2020.
