Who Am I
Release date: TBC Label: Rinse / Virgin EMI
AVAILABLE FROM 9PM THIS EVENING FOLLOWING THE EXCLUSIVE ANNIE MAC PLAY!!!!!
Following the announcement of her stellar collaborative album project Honey, Katy B is pleased to announce new single ‘Who Am I’, with Craig David and Major Lazer, which was premiered by Annie Mac as her ‘Hottest Record’ on BBC Radio 1. It marks Katy’s first single since her chart topping #1 ‘Turn The Music Louder (Rumble)’ with KDA and Tinie Tempah.
The stars align perfectly on ‘Who Am I’, a soaring, hands-in-the-air club ballad, with some of Katy’s most heart-on-sleeve lyrics, delivered through a spellbinding vocal duet with Craig David and set to Major Lazer’s majestically futuristic sonics.
Honey sees Katy teaming up with some of the hottest artists and producers around, running the gamut from the underground to the top of the charts. First previewed with ‘Calm Down’ that saw Katy join forces with Four Tet and Floating Points, followed by the KAYTRANADA produced title track, Honey features further collaborations with J Hus, Wilkinson, Jamie Jones, Sasha Keable,Chris Lorenzo, Novelist, Hannah Wants, Mr. Mitch, D Double E, MssingNo and many others.
Honey is a love letter to Katy’s natural home – the global club underground. “I always love performing at places like Warehouse Project or Fabric,” Katy says, “and I wanted to have new songs that I could perform at that sort of gig. Just a few things to remind people what I was about.” And as she wrote to beats submitted by some of the coolest producers in the game selected by her and long time collaborator and Rinse founder Geeneus, Honey took on an identity of its own: a super-diverse yet still perfectly coherent 13-track snapshot of the state of the underground in 2016, a series of upcoming Honey club nights, and a bold a statement of Katy as a songwriter and performer as anything in her catalogue.
“This project means a lot to me because I got to work with so many artists that I respect so highly”, Katy summarizes. “Writing it was so natural and I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.”
Katy’s biggest London show to date will comes May 14th, when she headlines Brixton Academy.
