Having already made a monumental start to 2019, Digga D keeps up the momentum with his brand new single ‘Mr Sheeen’, a collaboration with Russ (Splash), released on Virgin EMI Records.
Accompanied by a visual courtesy of in-demand director Myles Suave, the video sees the duo highlighting their cross London collaboration, as they go about their business on opposite sides of town: Digga ducks out of his ‘community payback’ shift to ride around West in a Jeep, while the enigmatic Russ makes it rain in a South London launderette. Trading bars on the tracks addictive hook, the pair remind listeners of their certi status as they plot to top their already history-making moves, and threaten to, “Pull up and spray like Mr Sheeen.”
Both acts have proven to be young pioneers, making tracks that impact both the streets and the charts: their songs are authentic to the essence of UK drill, but with cleverly infectious hooks that have captured the attention of the mainstream. As a result 18-year-old Digga D’s independently released ‘Double Tap Diaries’ mixtape became the highest charting drill project on the UK Albums Chart when it dropped in May. Russ is the only drill artist to have had two UK top 10 singles, with ‘Gun Lean’ and ‘Keisha & Becky’, both tracks are certified silver with over half a million sales and 50 million streams between them.
A heavyweight team up, ‘Mr Sheeen’ marks the second time the pair have joined forces on a track, following Digga D’s appearance on Russ’ ‘Gun Lean (Remix)’ back in January. Their first time dropping an original track together, this is set to be another landmark release.
‘Mr Sheeen’ follows the success of Digga D’s ‘No Diet’, which has already racked up well over 20 million streams. When it dropped in April, the video amassed 2 million YouTube views in a week and set a record on Mixtape Madness as the fastest to reach 1 million views, which it did in just three days. The track soon attracted the attention of Stormzy and Anthony Joshua, who both supported it on their socials, as well as Hollywood actor Zac Efron, who used ‘No Diet’ to soundtrack a recap video of a promo trip to London, which he shared with his 39 million Instagram followers. It’s currently the highest charting drill song with no features.
