Sunstrand developed her eclectic sound from living in cities as wide reaching as Sao Paulo, London, Barcelona and Berlin. Her sound is a mix of these urban styles, with breaks and beats around sensual melodies, dance grooves, electronic effects and orchestral arrangements.
Gabi started her music career as a session musician playing and singing with artists such as Tricky (performing on the Jools Holland Show, The American MTV fashion awards, touring the U.S.A, Europe and Israel), Five (European MTV Awards), Anne Clark (European Tour and featured on singles "Wallies" and "Sleeper in Metropolis"), The Lighthouse Family, Des'ree, Cathy Dennis (European tours and performing on Top Of The Pops), MC Almont (British tour supporting Cindy Lauper, Royal Albert Hall, Greater London Radio Live Session).
After a successful career, these experiences inspired her to produce her first solo work, performing as Gabi Almeida, entitled 'Paint My Colours' released in 2008. Her album received enthusiastic reviews from MTV Brazil, Rolling Stone, and Vogue. The video for 'Paint My Colours' received heavy rotation on MTV Brazil and her album was played across national radio.
Gabi's songs have also featured on film and TV soundtracks, such as
Latin American HBO series "Alice" and Brazilian films such as "A Mulher Invisivel" (Claudio Torres)
This exposure resulted in Gabi performing at festivals such as "Power To The Peaceful" (alongside international names such as Michael Frantti and Seu George) and European festival EU music days (Stockholm), also performing on live TV shows (e.g MTV and "Programa do Jo" Globo Brasil) and international fashion shows in Sao Paulo.
Gabi, now performing under the name Sunstrand, is releasing her first single, 'Just A Little Bit Of' on Monday 18th June 2012.
