'B.o.B aka Bobby Ray '
AIRPLANES (Feat. HAYLEY WILLIAMS OF PARAMORE) – AUGUST 9
B.o.B is set to release “Airplanes (feat. Hayley Williams of Paramore)” on August 9 through Atlantic Records. It’s the second single to be taken from his critically acclaimed debut album, “B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray”, which entered the Billboard 200 at number one and was released here in May.
“Airplanes” follows the massive UK number one single “Nothin’ On You (Feat. Bruno Mars)”, a true breakout smash for B.o.B, it also topped Billboard’s “Hot 100” in the US. “Airplanes” is already blowing up stateside, upon release it entered the iTunes chart at number two whilst here in the UK the track has already been playlisted at Capital, Galaxy, Kiss, 1Xtra and The Hitmusic Network.
Having spent much of last year sharing stages with such like-minded artists as Asher Roth, Kid Cudi, and Shwayze, B.o.B has just wrapped up a sold out US tour supporting Atlantic labelmate Lupe Fiasco. He also performed at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, and hit London at the end of May for a triumphant show at Kings College which saw The Guardian declare - "B.o.B. will be H.U.G.E." (4 stars), whilst The Times said "In Britain we prefer our rap home-grown, but B.o.B is an exception...he bought a breath of fresh air back to rap." (4 stars).
Born Bobby Ray Simmons B.o.B is one of hip-hop’s most inventive and exciting young artists, he has quickly drawn a bounty of rapturous critical applause. Billboard celebrated the rapper’s “versatility,” declaring that he “recalls both OutKast’s Big Boi and crooner Raheem DeVaughn and may be the first rapper to play the guitar well.” XXL – which named B.o.B among its “10 Freshmen of 2009” – called him “ready for stardom,” Nylon hailed B.o.B as a leading figure of “a new generation of hip-hop upstarts” and the Wall Street Journal concurred, praising the MC for “testing the genre’s conventions.” Vibe recently hailed his leading role in the emerging Atlanta sound, noting that “a musical renaissance has begun to take shape, and locals like B.o.B are putting a new movement in motion”. Additional profiles have appeared in The Source, Spin, XXL, Fader, and Rolling Stone. Here in the UK RWD magazine tipped B.o.B as an act to watch in 2010 heralding him as “one of the most exciting singers/rappers around” whilst his album received critical praise across the board (see below…).
“B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray”, sees the resourceful rapper producing the majority of the album by himself, while also playing multiple musical instruments, including piano, trumpet and French horn. In addition, B.o.B is joined by a star-studded line-up of surprising special guests, including Hayley Williams of Paramore, T.I., Eminem, Janelle Monáe, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, Playboy Tre, and Lupe Fiasco. Endlessly inventive tracks such as “5th Dimension” and “Magic” offer a funky and fascinating journey into a gifted new talent’s far-reaching imagination.
“I just want to show people that there are endless possibilities of what you can do,” B.o.B says. “You don’t just have to be a rapper, you don’t just have to be a trapper; you can be anything you want to be and whatever you do, just love it and it will show.”
