Sunday 10th January 2021

Release date: Out now Label: Warner Records

The electronic duo Deepest Blue released two of the most memorable dance tracks of the noughties with their UK Top 10 hits ‘Deepest Blue’ and ‘Give It Away’. Having reunited last year, Deepest Blue start 2021 with a bang by releasing their new track ‘Bad Guy’ on January 1st

‘Bad Guy’ takes the basic structure of ‘Deepest Blue’ and elevates it with a fresh touch in the shape of an engaging, pitched new hook. Meanwhile, Matt Schwarz’s production is also bang up to date, as he infuses the track with a rush of modern melodic house flavour. Yet the duo’s flair for pop-leaning songwriting remains as strong as ever, and is perfectly complemented by Joel Edwards’ powerfully poised topline.

Giving more insight into the themes explored in the lyrics Mati from the band added, “Deepest blue is essentially about a messed up relationship, a little schizophrenic at times but when you have strong feelings, they tend to confuse everything else and you end up doing things you wouldn’t normally do”

Deepest Blue reformed after the multi-Platinum duo Filatov & Karas released a new version of ‘Give It Away’ last year. It demonstrated that Deepest Blue could connect with a new generation of fans, as it reached 4.5 million views at YouTube as well as 3.8 million streams at SpotifyJoel Edwards also joined them to record an ‘At Home’ session version of the track

Outside of Deepest BlueMatt Schwartz is an in-demand producer and writer whose credits include everyone from Massive Attack to Kylie via Bullet For My Valentine. He has worked extensively with YUNGBLUD, most notably on the huge Halsey collab ’11 Minutes’Joel Edwards has collaborated with Dave Lee (previously known as Joey Negro) and Planet Funk, and released ‘How To Fly’ with Lazy Guy in 2020.
