I Need A Night Out

Release date: TBC Label: RCA

RCA’s latest pop sensation Chelcee Grimes releases ‘I Need A Night Out’ on Sept 7th. Professional footballer turned songwriter, Chelcee is causing a storm everywhere she goes with her old school pop sounds and fun, suggestive lyrics.

I Need A Night Out’ is one of Chelcee’s most personal songs and is her up tempo take on a typical heartbreak song. The track derives from a personal low in Chelcee’s life last year following a breakup and a simple text to a friend saying that she just needed a night out to forget about all her problems. Knowing that she couldn’t be the only person who feels like this, Chelcee jumped into a recording studio with Kara Diaguardi (one of her favourite writers of all time, who has written for many of Chelcee’s idols including P!nk, Britney and Gwen Stefani). Before they knew it, the song had been written and here we are.

The video for the song was filmed in Malaga. It has a party filled, let your hair down vibe that captures every aspect of a post heartbreak night out. Chelcee said she really wanted to highlight going through that roller coaster of emotions you feel after a big breakup in one night.

Chelcee will be playing two headline shows this October including one in her home city of Liverpool:

Tickets available at http://gigst.rs/CG from Friday 7th September at 9am.

This new track is the follow up to Chelcee’s debut single ‘Just Like That’ released in June this year. The song received widespread support including two ‘Best New Pop’ plays from Adele Roberts on Radio 1 and a number of key Spotify playlists.

Chelcee has already written for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa, Olly Murs, The Saturday and Louisa Johnson (whose single ‘So Good’ has gone gold). The 25 year old is on a mission to change the current pop trend. She said: “There aren’t many straight up pop stars playing instruments at the moment, so I wanted to break the mould. If you watch Gaga, she’ll play piano and then do a dance break – that’s so fucking cool.”

As well as her musical talents, Chelcee plays professional football for Fulham. She said “I’m making my best music and get to play football every week. It’s my perfect combination and I couldn’t be happier.”

But it hasn’t been all smooth sailing and as the saying goes, ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again’ as Liverpool born Chelcee had her first taste of being signed (to RCA no less) in 2012 aged 19. But before any music could come out, she lost her deal. She said of the experience: “I look back at that time in such a blur. I went from being on top of the world at having a deal, to thinking my career was over before it had even begun.  But I am so glad I didn’t put any music out then, it wasn’t my time… I didn’t know who I was as an artist. I went away, learned my craft and decided to give it another go. Signing back to RCA was like getting back together with an ex – but I really clicked with the new team here and knew I had to give it a go. There’s unfinished business and I’ve never been more ready.”
