Blackmagic has been a rising star in the Afrobeats scene since his breakout track ‘Repete’ last year created a storm in his native Lagos; turning heads again with a second cult banger in February this year with ‘Like This’ featuring two of the hottest emerging artists in the scene in Seyi Shay and Big Bad. He now drops his biggest crossover track so far in ‘Wonder’ with US rap superstar Fetty Wap. 

Ready to enter the UK and US consciousnesses in a major way, Blackmagic enlists the head Remy Boy himself for one of the waviest collaborations of the summer; picked up as a One to Watch over here and in the US by critical tastemakers includingFACT and VIBE, Blackmagic is already on the radars of some of the most influential publications in music. 

‘Wonder’ comes through like a true, airy Afrobeats slowjam - with the addition of low-key trumpet and piano touches and a gorgeous female chorus. It’s a unique and innovative combination that meshes perfectly with Blackmagic’s lilting vocal style and Fetty’s trademark jagged, off-kilter cadence to give a refreshingly new iteration on the genre. 

Speaking on the track, Blackmagic states: "The song is inspired by an ode to the beauty that African women possess, and the power of that beauty to inspire art and creativity. The song is about the pure pleasure of watching a beautiful woman dance, the radiance of her smile and the wonder of her body. A woman’s beauty is one of the many joys of life." 

It’s already feeling like a club and ride favourite if the early reactions are anything to go by, this is a new benchmark for an artist that’s been earmarked for serious things.
